Title: Foolproof statistic...why the count?
Date: Sun Dec 16, 2007 11:44 am (PST)

"....Numbers, statistics, who cares? Do you want to measure it in meters
of installed razor wire? Meters of height of my front wall? How many
thieves are let go? How many hours it takes you to file a complaint?
How much it costs you to defend yourself against the vengence of the
officials and their friends? How many hours it takes to respond to
your 911 of "man with a gun"? No, friends, the numbers just don't
count... it is how quick you can get back in your house and lock the
door... it is how many times you tremble when you hear glass breaking
at 2AM... it is your pulse rate when you feel a hand in your
backpack... those are the only STATISTICS that you will need.

Prevention has legal complications. .. the State has a constitutional
monopoly on prosecution. .. to the point that "legally" you may not
even be able to find out an apprehended thief's name! But say he
stole your wallet... he is caught... maybe even jailed... depending
upon how much you had in your wallet... and you cannot legally know
his name... BUT... when they take YOUR wallet away from him and return
it to you, they (by law?) give him a receipt with YOUR name and YOUR
address and YOUR phone number and NO you don't get a copy, just your
wallet and maybe even with the "arrest fee" deducted....

Here, its every man and woman for their selves....
